Suggested Format of Fast (Text)
FAST will be from Dawn until 3.00 PM.
Participants can fast from any thing that will allow each
to share in some way in the sacrifice of Our Lord.
Fasting from Food, Television, Speech,Cigarettes or
anything else will be offered for the fast hours on
behalf of our priests in the local, national and Universal
Church.
Suggested 3.00 PM Concluding Service

Would that today you might fast so
as to make your voice heard on high,
this is the fasting that I wish which
will release those bound unjustly
and untie the thongs of the yoke. It
will set free the oppressed. Then
your light shall break forth like the
dawn, and your wounds shall
quickly be healed; your vindication
shall go before you and the glory of
the Lord shall be your rearguard.
Then you shall call and the Lord will
answer, you shall cry for help and

The Fifth annual, worldwide Lay Fast for Priests will take place on Saturday, 23 October 2010.
Every lay member of the Body of Christ is invited to join the global fasters from all corners of
the Universal Church who want to lift up our priests to Almighty God for their protection, divine
sustenance and fidelity to the ministry of Holy Orders.

O Jesus, eternal Priest,
keep Your priests within the shelter of
Your Sacred Heart,
where none may touch them.
Keep unstained their anointed hands,
which daily touch Your Sacred Body.
Keep unsullied their lips,
daily purpled with Your Precious Blood.
Keep pure and unearthly their hearts,
sealed with the sublime mark of the
priesthood.
Let Your Holy Love surround them and
shield them from the world's contagion.
Bless their labors with abundant fruit and
may the souls to whom they minister
be their joy and consolation here
and in heaven
their beautiful and everlasting crown.

Dearest Friends in Christ Jesus, It is Sunday the 24th, the day after the fifth annual Lay Fast Day for Priests and it is with great joy that we thank Our Blessed Lady for this magnificent offering from the people of God. Thousands of folks from Australia and New Zealand all the way to Hawaii signed up to storm Heaven in this fast for priests. In the United States, Dina Marie Hale of KVBM FM Oregon and Drew Mariani at Relevant Radio in Milwaukee caused our email inbox to be flooded after they announced the Fast on their programs. Thanks to all of our new friends from Facebook and their extensive global networks, such as Michele in Michigan USA and Denis in Africa, our numbers were boosted even higher this year. Being aware of the many thousands who signed up at their own parishes throughout the world and whose names were not recorded, we named each participating parish so that all of us were in solidarity for such an astonishing offering in this global Fast to God for Priests. We, the Lay Fast team, also wrote the name of every online sign up and when the baskets of sign ups were processed to the Lord at our closing Benediction yesterday, we were all united in Him. One of our brothers in Christ in Australia emailed us on Friday our time to tell us that it was now Dawn for him; that he was on the early shift – and the he was already hungry!! It was going to be along day, he said, but it was worth it for our priests, signing off “G’Donya”. We have seen names of people in countries that were difficult for us to pronounce … Lavish from India; Sergei from Russia; David from HussIan Province in Siam; Pee Wee from Taiwan; not forgetting Gordon McPherson from Scotland. We have had warm wishes to all of us fasting here in the Americas and many funny wee comments like Bill from England who reminded me that when I was still hungry yesterday, he would be tucking into to a nice steak dinner! Or Joan from San Diego who wrote, “No TV for me. No way! All day!” And Vince from Quebec who expressed what the Fast means for all of us: “For all priests: past, future, present. WOW!!” We have had the heartbreaking offering from our Spiritual family in Christ who live in Aden where Catholics are being persecuted. They asked for our prayers as do our Spiritual brothers and sisters in China. Yesterday, all over the world from the Far East to the furthest West, many, many thousands of the people of God have united in a common Fast to petition Our Lady for Spiritual protection for all priests; for forgiveness for those gone by; for strength and holiness for those yet to be ordained. And to bless us, the people of God, with many more good and holy men who will lead every heart to Christ. This past week-end, here at the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette in Attleboro, Massachusetts we have actually witnessed that very possibility – fifteen young and fine men arrived for a “Come and See” weekend. Our Lady has seen and heard our sacrifice of the last five years of Fasts … and God has answered. We wish you continued and abundant blessings in the Lord and God willing, we may see you same time, same place, next year for the sixth annual Lay Fast for Priests – on Saturday, 22 October 2011!
